The Land Bank’s DRAFT proposal is that people in need of family care could live in a Community Cottage to allow a
certain level of autonomy while still being close to their caregivers. The Land Bank is looking at ways where the family could either rent or own the buildings. Since it would be required to monitor the occupancy for the buildings to be permitted, it would probably be best that if the buildings was purchased by the family, that the Land Bank would have an option to purchase it back if there is no longer a need for the building. For families who don’t want to purchase one, the Land Bank could collect a rent. Hydro would be paid by the host family or could be the responsibility of the tenant. The Land Bank would cover the insurance on the buildings that the Land Bank owned. If the tenant moved out the Host could take another tenant, provided the tenant qualifies. If the Host no longer wanted the Community Cottage, the Land Bank would seek another location to place it.
